Original Book Review
This book wasn’t easy for me to get into because the writing is very much infused with Irish vernacular and local speech. Because of that, and as someone who subvocalizes, the language didn’t read as “natural” to me, and most of the time I was 50 shades of lost.
To set the scene: this book follows a group of friends torn apart by Kala’s sudden disappearance. Years later, they return home, secrets resurface, and Kala’s body suddenly turns up. DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN…
Overall a decent, slow-paced thriller. But wouldn’t recommend.
Rating: 3 Stars
Genre: literary fiction with mystery elements (although the synopsis made it sound like a mystery thriller, that’s not really the case)
ps. this photo also shows my husband reading his kindle in the pool lol
