Original Book Review
I was forced to acknowledge too late, much too late, that I too had loved, that I was capable of suffering, and that I was human after all.
I Who Have Never Known Men is a post-apocalyptic novel about 39 women and a young girl who are held captive in an underground bunker for years. Where they are, when it happened and how they got there are unkown. One day, the men that guarded them disappear and the prisoners have a chance to escape. Everything changes, but also, nothing changes. This young girl, who has no name and memory of her past has to reinvent herself in this unfamilliar world. This novel is heartbreaking, powerful and beautiful which explores the meaning of life and what it means to be human. I Who Have Never Known Men is a masterpiece and I cannot believe I didn’t read it sooner.
I’ve never cried over a book in a good while and this made me so sad that I actually cried while writing this review. I’m sorry but I don’t think I can write a review without spoilers so if you have yet to read this book, don’t read the next slides. But if you have read this book, please let me know your thoughts.
