BESTIES. I think I’m an Elin girlie now?? Her books are like a summer sangria—sweet, strong, and they will sneak up on you.
This one took me a little longer to read than usual (blaming the holiday weekend, sunshine, and maybe one too many grilled hot dogs), but wow… worth every second.
Mallory’s story? Obsessed. Watching her grow and fumble and fall over 28 summers had me all in my feelings. And Elin? She writes adults SO WELL. Give me messy, complicated people in their 30s and 40s just trying to figure it out. Yes please.
Also loved the way the story bounced around perspectives without officially being “multi-POV” — it kept things fresh without feeling chaotic. And the ending?? RUDE. But also perfect. My heart shattered and then glued itself back together in the same chapter.
So yes, I’m now hunting down another Elin book ASAP.
