Original Book Review

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

““Dogs riding dogs,” Donut spat as a pair of danger-dingo-riding kobolds charged at us. “I’ve had nightmares like this.” She hissed and fired a pair of magic missiles, hitting the mounts.”

This book is just plain fun! It starts with Carl surviving an alien invasion in his underwear and ex-girlfriend’s pink crocs. I loved the humour, Princess Donut who is Carl’s ex-girlfriend’s cat (who talks!), and Carl himself.

The LitRPG take is great and I got really into it. The further you read the more bizarre this story gets and it’s addictive. There’s an emotional side to it to as Carl sees the number of participants get lower and lower while he fights on and the fact that the entire reason they’re in the game is because of the apocalypse.

Apparently a ton of people recommend the audiobook so I might need to do a reread and give that listen!
